Teaching and assessment

Teaching and assessment

Filmmaking offers opportunities to explore a broad range of film forms and cultures, including fiction and documentary forms and commercial and experimental production.

You can specialise as you progress through the course and, if you wish, tailor your studies to focus on career specialisms including producing, directing, sound, cinematography, post-production, and visual effects.

The craft skills of production are integral to your learning throughout and you are encouraged to experiment and explore your talents towards developing your own creative 'voice'.

Filmmaking is characterised by its practical approach to learning (you learn through making), by the value that it places on nurturing creative individuality and by its encouragement of a critically reflective approach.

Screenwriting nurtures your love of story and aims to develop your skills as a writer and media practitioner for the 21st century. It provides creative, challenging approaches to writing for the screen and performance - from initial conception to production.

You are taught by lecturers with both academic and professional, industry backgrounds who are well placed to offer you expert advice and to support your development of original writing.

The course provides you with many opportunities to network with industry contacts, supporting your developing understanding of how your writing skills are transferable to employment within the media industries.
