Kate is a senior lecturer, teaching English across the postgraduate and undergraduate courses at the ÃÛÌÒÖ±²¥. She leads English, including Early Reading, for the Undergraduate Courses and the Safeguarding course content within the Primary Department. Kate is a dissertation supervisor and a Personal Academic Tutor for postgraduates. As a Lead Mentor, Kate supports undergraduates, postgraduates and apprentices whilst on placement, working closely with schools as part of her role within the Partnership team. Kate leads Intensive Training and Practice (ITaP) on assessment.

Before joining the university, Kate taught in primary schools in Herefordshire, Gloucestershire and Somerset for over 20 years. She was subject Lead for English, as well as for assessment, curriculum development and music. Kate also worked as an experienced Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead. As a Deputy Head for 7 years, Kate developed and implemented many whole school initiatives and particularly enjoyed working with new and existing teachers to support and develop their practice.

Throughout her time as an educator, Kate has been fascinated by the role of positive teacher-pupil relationships and how they underpin the teaching and learning process, supporting all learners to achieve. Kate recently completed her MA in Education, where her dissertation focused on teacher-student relationships in Higher Education.

Teaching Interests

Kate teaches across all English modules on the undergraduate and post-graduate courses. She leads the Primary Undergraduate English, including Early Reading. Kate also leads Intensive Training and Practice on Assessment, which focuses on questioning.
