Josie's research focuses on innovative methods for soil erosion monitoring and Natural Flood Management (NFM). She use drones to capture ultra-high resolution Digital Surface Models (DSMs) to provide detailed insights on the volume of soil eroded from agricultural fields and the financial cost this has to landowners.
At both the local and catchment scale, she aims to challenge the current NFM approach, which often targets areas based on landowner relationships rather than suitability. Using tools like SCALGO, SCIMAP, and Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Josie maps and model priority locations for NFM, promoting a more evidence-based and effective strategy for flood management.
