Christian is a Principal Lecturer in Sports Coaching Science and the Course Leader for the sports coaching degree pathway, and leads on sociological, psychological and research methods modules within the school’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Christian also coordinates the final year independent research project for all sports coaching and physical education degree pathways. Christian is passionate about helping students develop their research skills and approaches,  his contribution to student learning was recently awarded a ÃÛÌÒÖ±²¥ teaching award. 

Christian is a member of the Coaching and Performance Research Group, and he leads the 'Gender, Identity and the Body' theme of the Inclusive Sport and Physical Activity Research Group. Christian supervises postgraduate research students within these research groups.  He is currently supporting students working with national governing bodies, professional sports teams and charitable organisations.

The principal focus of Christian’s research is on the psychology of resistance exercise, specifically psychological strategies' influence on strength performance and muscularity-orientated body image. Christian has published his work in, and reviews for, a number of leading international academic journals in this area. In addition to his work in this field, he also collaborates on research and supervises postgraduate students on projects focused on coach identity, coach decision-making, and workplace physical activity, health, and wellbeing.

Alongside his university role, Christian is a cycling coach and NGB tutor and award assessor.

Teaching Interests:

Christian leads and delivers modules in the following areas:

  • Research Methods (Sports Coaching and Physical Education degree pathways, Level 5)
  • Scientific Principles in Physical Education and Sports Coaching (Level 5)
  • Contemporary Issues in Sports Coaching (Level 7)

Christian also coordinates the Level 6 Independent Research Project for all Sports Coaching and Physical Education degree pathways. 

Research Interests:
