David Hunt Computer Science SL David is the PGCE secondary subject lead for computer science. He spent 22 years in a range of teaching and management roles in UK and international secondary schools before moving into higher education. He established the computer science PGCE in 2013 and is the higher education partner for the West Midlands computing at schools (CAS) hub.

He introduced the Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) programme to develop trainees' technological skills in the classroom and he innovates technical solutions within the PGCE programme. His research interests include computing and technology-based pedagogies, as well as the development of physical computing for education and he regularly contributes to magazine articles.

His Master's dissertation explored the impact of the TEL programme using an appreciative inquiry methodology. He is the teaching lead for the Prince Henry's SCITT, a STEM ambassador and a fellow of the HEA.

Teaching & Research

Teaching Interests

David works mainly with secondary trainee teachers who will teach computer science up to sixth form level. He has developed a very successful enhancement activity programme, which encourages trainees of all subject disciplines to embed new technologies within their teaching. This has led to much innovative and inspirational classroom practice, which is often cascaded throughout partnership schools. He also engages with primary trainees and is interested in cross phase subject pedagogies.

He is an experienced Professional Studies tutor engaging with the wider context of a teachers responsibilities. David is an active member of the University's Technology Enhanced Learning working group and regularly leads Share & Inspire sessions to colleagues in Higher Education.
