One of the UK's most prolific fashion illustrators is to exhibit some of her work at The Hive in Worcester.
Angela Landels career has spanned 60 years in fashion illustration, portraiture, book illustration and painting.
Her fluid, original style exemplified a new generation of artists, who brought fashion illustration to our magazines, newspapers and advertising from the 1960s onwards.
Angela has worked with the most prestigious publications and fashion houses including her role as Art Editor for Harper's Bazaar. Her distinctive fashion drawings have been published in Tatler, Women's Wear Daily and Harpers Queen as well as featuring in advertising campaigns for Aquascutum, Austin Reed and Liberty.
Angela has run advertising campaigns for Fortnum and Mason, Yardley Cosmetics and Susan Small to name but a few. Her stylistic work has included drawings of ball gowns designed by Balenciaga, Balmain, Yves Saint Laurent and Zandra Rhodes.
After the birth of her two daughters, Angela moved into another career phase working freelance as a portrait artist. Her reputation meant that she was soon sketching and drawing many fascinating people including conductor Sir Georg Solti, author Len Deighton, André Deutsch the publisher, Jennifer Paterson celebrity chef and Sir Bob Geldof.
In later years, Angela produced illustrations for over 70 book covers in her individual and detailed style.
Anne Hannaford, Director of Arts and Culture at the ÃÛÌÒÖ±²¥, which is bringing the exhibition to the City, said: "Angela's passion for drawing remains unabated, in particular her love of life drawing and its capacity for authenticity. After so many years producing enhanced images to suit the demands of the fashion industry, Angela reports that it is a pleasure to return to truthful representations of the human form, of both youthful and beautiful models as well as those whose bodies tell a story with age and imperfections. As Angela says: "It's the process of convincingly interpreting three dimensions into two dimensional art"."
This free exhibition offers a fascinating insight into the artistic process, with a selection of styles drawn from different phases of Angela's distinguished career.
The exhibition will be held on the Lower Ground Floor at The Hive from Saturday, April 16 to Thursday, May 5.
