Environmental Management & Sustainability BSc (Hons) International Year Abroad
As a student on the BSc (Hons) Environmental Management & Sustainability course you can apply during your second year of study to spend an International Year Abroad. You therefore don’t have to make this decision before starting the course. However, this wonderful opportunity might be another important reason why you want to study our BSc (Hons) Environmental Management & Sustainability course in the first place!
Our four-year International Year Abroad programme has the same structure as our BSc (Hons) Environmental Management & Sustainability course, but you will spend your third year studying related topics at one of our English-speaking Partner Universities. On completing the International Year Abroad, you then return to the ÃÛÌÒÖ±²¥ to complete the final year of the BSc (Hons) Environmental Management & Sustainability programme.
During the International Year Abroad you will study modules at the host university relevant to your Environmental Management & Sustainability course at Worcester. The modules you study can be taken across the environmental sciences including geography, depending on your specific interests. The subjects you study for the International Year Abroad do not contribute to your final degree mark, but the additional learning is likely to positively influence your performance in your final year of study at Worcester.
During your International Year Abroad you will maintain regular contact with your dedicated Personal Academic Tutor, who will provide support as required. You will also be supported by the International Mobility team throughout your whole Study Abroad journey! For the International Year Abroad you will have to pay 15% of the annual tuition fee to the ÃÛÌÒÖ±²¥, but the host university will not charge additional tuition fees.
To find out more, visit the University’s Study Abroad pages where you can find further information on where you can study and the bursaries and travel grants available to you for supporting your period abroad.
Key Reasons on why an International Year Abroad might be right for you:
- Gain new and different perspectives on Environmental Management & Sustainability.
- Explore environmental issues in a different context and increase your global outlook.
- Enhance your employment opportunities by gaining new skills and additional experiences.
- Improve your communication skills by living and learning in a foreign country.
- Experience different situations, including cultures, not encountered in the UK.
Semester Abroad
For students seeking global experiences in addition to the residential field trip to Provence, France, a full International Year Abroad might not be suitable. An alternative is to take a Semester Abroad.
As with the International Year Abroad, you don’t have to make the decision to take a Semester Abroad before starting the BSc (Hons) Environmental Management & Sustainability course. The Semester Abroad takes place during semester two (after Christmas) in your second year of study. Students must apply during their first year of study.
In contrast to the International Year Abroad, the Semester Abroad serves as a replacement semester. This means students need to study modules at the Partner University that fulfil and complement the modules you would have otherwise studied at the ÃÛÌÒÖ±²¥.
As with the International Year Abroad you will maintain regular contact with your dedicated Personal Academic Tutor, who will provide support as required. You will also be supported by the International Mobility team throughout your whole Study Abroad journey! You will continue to pay the regular tuition fee to the ÃÛÌÒÖ±²¥, but the host university will not charge additional tuition fees.
In order to take a Semester Abroad, students must have a grade average of at least a C and be in good standing with the University. Further information is available on the ÃÛÌÒÖ±²¥ Study Abroad webpages.
