“I feel very proud to be graduating,” said Emily. “It’s a welcome celebration after a tough 18 months for us all. My time at ÃÛÌÒÖ±²¥ has been crucial in shaping me, not only as a person, but as a teacher. The sense of community is a real asset and I can't imagine studying at a different institute for my PGCE."

“The support that was offered in terms of securing a teaching post and support during my NQT year is so appreciated. I do not know of another university that values and supports its alumni like the ÃÛÌÒÖ±²¥.”

Emily is currently a PE Teacher at Tamworth Enterprise College and in the future hopes to progress within the school and further develop her teaching skills.

“Teaching PE was something I always wanted to do whilst I was at secondary school. I love that every day is different, I have a whole big family full of other teachers and pupils!” said Emily. “There isn't a day that I don’t laugh out loud and being a PE teacher allows me to be active within work, rather than being sat at a desk. I love being able to help just one pupil either feel better about themselves, tackle a problem or develop their PE skills. Teaching isn't just about loving the subject it's about supporting the pupils to achieve their best and be remarkable!”

Emily originally studied Sport and Exercise Science at Worcester. Following this, she took some time out of her long-term career goal and joined the University as a Graduate Ambassador, supporting the University in its outreach work with schools and colleges. “This really opened my eyes to the real-life working world outside of part-time jobs while at university and was a great opportunity to develop my professional skills,” she said. “It also gave me a huge insight into working in and with schools as well as young children.” Returning to her studies, Emily has said that she struggled with her mental health at times during the PGCE, but said her University tutor and school placement tutor had proved a great support.
